Comptroller Scott Stringer Pushes City-Sponsored Retirement Plan

Comptroller Scott Stringer Pushes City-Sponsored Retirement Plan

In New York City, three-fifths of private-sector employees don’t have employer-based retirement plans. At companies with fewer than 10 employees, that figure jumps to nearly 90 percent. In response to this problem, NYC Comptroller Scott Stringer recently released the "NYC Nest Egg Plan" to address what he says could be a burden for future taxpayers, who would be called upon to support a growing population of low-income seniors.

9 Reasons All Couples Should Get A Prenup Before Marriage

9 Reasons All Couples Should Get A Prenup Before Marriage

When one hears the word “prenup,” the image of an affluent mogul and a youthful swimsuit model comes to mind. However, a prenuptial agreement should be given due consideration by ALL couples (regardless of income level) before they walk down the aisle! The reality today is that an abundance of marriages result in divorce, and if they do, there are assets to be appropriated. A prenup can save a lot of heartache and money. Here are nine reasons why all couples should get a prenuptial agreement before marriage:

Garbage and ignorance

Garbage and ignorance

Here are some pictures I made at Brighton Beach Avenue. It looked like some business owners decided to ignore every law, rule or regulations and to turn Brighton Beach Avenue into dirty street bazaar or transform it into one big garbage pile of rotten vegetables and fruits.

How to support small business?

How to support small business?

Small business owners deserve our strong support. In too many instances,  they are pushed out because of insanely increased commercial rents. Former Met Food supermarket on Brighton Beach Avenue decided to move after its rent was tripled before Sandy. My neighborhood lost an important asset. And we see similar situations all over the city.

Overdevelopment in Brooklyn and affordable housing

Overdevelopment in Brooklyn and affordable housing

Our outdated infrastructure should be modernized long ago, even before Sandy. If we will miss the opportunity to do this right before it’s too late, Southern Brooklyn will be soon transformed into one big, ugly, crowded forest of tall condo towers with little opportunity to have good quality of life in safe and quite neighborhood with good schools and convenient local stores.

Food stamps cuts. Hitting the neediest people

Starting November 1, 2013, food stamps in New York City were cut by 11 dollars for one recipient and by 20 dollars for a couple. For a family of four people, including two children, these cuts amounted up to $68 a month. Tenants are fuming about stinky building at Manhattan Beach. 301 Oriental Blvd

Super Storm Sandy affected many buildings, including this one, right across the Manhattan Beach – at 301 Oriental Blvd. When ocean water mixed up with oil in a basement, boiler was destroyed and the horrible toxic fumes forced many tenants out of their apartments. But not everybody had a place to go or money to relocate.
