Sheepshead Bay Rd. was once a beautiful, busy, and thriving area. In the last six years, it became a symbol of empty storefronts, piles of garbage, abandoned street shelter for homeless people, and economic decline. It suffered badly from the devastating effects of economic recession, SuperStorm Sandy, overdevelopment and neglect.

Many elected officials and community leaders organized on Sunday, November 22, 2015 the press conference near the site of the garbage transfer station construction at Bay 41 Street and Shore Parkway. They united in their fierce opposition to this dangerous construction that destroys our waters, air, soil and health.

There are more than 300,000 Russian speaking immigrants in New York City. Most of them are very concerned about recent crisis in Ukraine. They have close friends and relatives there. Many were born in Ukraine. Others view this conflict as confrontation between Russia and the West.
On December 26, 2013, NYPD tried to downplay teen riots at Kings Plaza shopping mall. They claimed that nothing serious really happened. Police did not report any arrests or crimes committed. Moreover, 63rd police precinct sent a statement that “There were no reports of any injuries, larcenies, or property damage”.
